gRETRIEVING ONE'S REPUTATION

Former NAPD police chief and school trustee is cleared of charges, original accuser now says Italiano did nothing wrong!

Retired North Arlington Police Chief Frank Italiano had charges of disorderly person's offense dropped after the original accuser has since said the former cop did nothing wrong.

While the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority described the charges as a "minor matter," Lyndhurst lawyer Gabriel Ambrosio called the settlement "good for him and his family (Italiano)."

While no one knows for sure why these false accusations were made, many borough residents were happy to hear that the retired police chief put this ugly episode in the past once and for all, including Mayor Peter Massa.

"I've known Frank for the better part of four decades and found him to be a credit to the community and the department. I know this was a weight around his neck and now that weight has been lifted by the courts. Justice has prevailed," said the retired Massa who served with Italiano as a member of the NAPD.

Many residents were happy top hear that Italiano's reputation is in the process of being restored.

"It's wrong to make accusations. People's lives can be ruined and in the case of Frank, this seemed to be very unfair from the start. I'm happy for him and the Italiano family," said one prominent local official who asked not to be identified.

Local Democrats were happy to hear that Italiano can move forward with his life.

"This was a terrible ordeal for the Italiano family. Where does one go to rehabilitate their reputation after something like this? The people of North Arlington are behind him and I wish him well," said one local Democrat after reading about the case in The Leader Newspapers.

"Frank Italiano is an honorable man who believes in public service. This kid of thing has no place in politics. He's a credit to the community and his long record of service should be praised, not attacked in this unseemly fashion," said one Ridge Road passerby.

"He was a good cop and he cares about kids. He's a good family guy. I'm glad to hear it all worked out for him."
