Rep. Steve Rothman Announces Delegation to the 2008 Democratic National Convention, North Arlington Councilman Al Granell named standing committee member to party fest
(Hackensack, NJ) - Tonight, U.S. Congressman Steve Rothman announced the group of 66 New Jerseyans who are pledged to U.S. Senator Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, CO this August. Rep. Rothman, the Obama campaign's Northeast Regional Co-Chair and Authorized Representative for New Jersey, says this team will not only support Barack Obama at the convention, but also help deliver a critical Obama victory in New Jersey come November.
This announcement immediately follows a meeting of the entire New Jersey Delegation to the convention in Denver, during which the group finalized its seven Standing Committee appointments. Gathering at the Labor Center of the Cook Campus at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, the combined Clinton and Obama delegates elected Governor John Corzine as their Delegation Chair, Congressman Rothman as Delegation Whip and Logan Township Mayor Frank Minor as Floor Whip.
Granell, who was selected personally by the Congressman is looking forward to attending the Denver convention.
"I'm thrilled as a Democrat to participate in a meaningful way at our party's convention. We have two strong candidates and it will be exciting to take part in this historic process," said the Ridge Road resident. Granell was elected to the governing body in 2006. He currently serves as Chairman of the Borough's Finance Committee which is responsible for this year's zero tax increase, municipal spending package.
