"HOW SWEET IT IS!"

TEN REASONS WHY THE REPUBLICANS LOST AND TEN REASONS WHY THE DEMOCRATS WON!
The longest election cycle in American history ended in historic fashion as Senator Barack Obama became the 44th president of the United States.
Here in North Arlington, political realignment took place as the last remnants of the Kaiser political machine were disposed of in a Democratic landslide that saw Council President Steve Tanelli emerge as a political force while Mayor Pete Massa flexed his political muscle by putting the weight of his office squarely behind this extraordinary effort.
More importantly, voters rejected the politics of the past by handing political insider Jim Bocchino his second defeat while rejecting the political comeback of former Councilman James Herrmann. Read More

Trivia Quiz:
Who can name the police officer escorting then Senator John F Kennedy on a campaign stop to Jersey City in the Fall of 1960?

To Kennedy's right is former New Jersey Governor Robert Meyner as well as former Hudson County Supervisor Jackie Deegan, and former Congressman Dominick Daniels (D-14). To the right of Kennedy behind the police officer is former Congressman Cornelius Gallagher of Bayonne of the old 15th congressional district.
Gallagher was seriously considered to be Lyndon Johnson's running-mate in 1964. Johnson ultimately chose Senator Hubert Humphrey (D-Minnesota). The Democratic Convention that year was held in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

A
DEBATE OVER DEBATES!
WILL
GILLIS, FITZHENRY AND PIMPINELLI DEBATE THE
DEMOCRATS?
HAVE
A CABLE DEBATE, LET THE AREA NEWSPAPERS ASK
THE QUESTIONS!
According
to Comcast Cable, partisan stalwart and Kaiser
confidante James Bocchino dropped off copies
of taped council meetings for public access
broadcast. The crude tape has been running regularly
for about a month.
It's
funny, but in the 22 years Republicans controlled
local government, Mr. Bocchino never had the
need to send tapes of meetings to the cable
provider! What a difference a 3-1 Democratic
majority makes! Read

WHAT

McDERMOTT
EQUALLY EVASIVE...
The
campaign for three council seats has been
a big snooze.
While
Democrats work the streets and search for votes,
the Republicans seem content in opposing Mayor
Pitman for the sake of being against him rather
than taking a responsible position themselves.
Independent George McDermott seems to believe
writing letters to the local papers that say little
about what he would actually do will somehow translate
to victory.
It's
time for the Republicans and Mr. McDermott to
take a stand.
They oppose municipal
layoffs. They all oppose a budget that doesn't
increase municipal taxes for the first time in
six years. They oppose the sale of the water utility.

NORTH

increase.
Whittles,
a four-term member of the council and
only Republican characterized the sale
as a rush to judgment and would rather

3,000 innocent victims.
