Officials: 1982 accounting error cause for tax increase

NORTH ARLINGTON - Residents will see a 4.4 percent municipal tax increase this year, thanks to a $445,000 accumulated debt.

The borough council adopted a budget of $17.5 million last week, a decrease of approximately $200,000 from last year's budget.

Officials claim this year's appropriations would have been down more than $700,000 if it had not been for a $445,000 deferred charge, which had financial officers back and forth to Trenton since March attempting to negotiate a payment plan. Read More
